Inside the General Motors Design Center, you can find several vintage 'Concept cars'. This is one of them. Retired from doing battle at Lime Rock, Laguna Seca and other circuits, you can't help but wonder how much was learned and applied to subsequent Chevrolet products because of this warrior's efforts. Not until four years later did we see the production Stingray with many of the advancements we see here. AUTOart has captured every nuance of style and racetrack technology that went into this forward thinking automobile for 1959. A hallmark of a Gateway Global diecast, the paint is flawless in application and finish. Precisely fitted, where the hood and rear deck closes you cannot add even the width of a piece of paper. Gateway Global has advanced the art of diecast building while keeping price tags in check. The use of plastic materials effectively designed to appear as much more expensive material, is utilized where applicable. In this case, the grill and hood insert panels are etched to look like fine photoetched metal. They have progressed with metal foil badging and insignias to mock and even surpass photo-etching in some circumstances. They are flatter and do not come across as two inches thick at 1:1 scale. The engine bay reveals a multitude of detail - wiring, plumbing and chrome. 3-D gauges make the dash pop and the floor shift knob sports the shift pattern. This is a monumental car and thankfully now a diecast. Thanks AUTOart. (08/26/2000) (08/26/2000) |
