In 2003, Ford debuted the rebirth of its Mustang Mach 1, the legendary muscle icon it first created in 1969. It was designed in Ford’s Living Legends Studio where the contemporary descendants of the Thunderbird and GT40 (now “GT”) have been hatched. The Mach 1 recalls elements of the original striking design. The classic drag-race inspired 'shaker' hood scoop is back, mounted to the intake manifold to direct fresh air to the intake runners to boost power. There’s the de rigueur rear deck lid spoiler, big rocker panels, and body side scoops. A bold racing strip splits the hood and races along the rocker panels. Seventeen - inch “Heritage” five-spoke wheels evoke the classic “Magnum 500” chrome wheels of yore. Chrome-tipped dual exhaust pipes are unique within the Mustang stable. Open the cockpit door to see that “Comfortweave” black leather once again clads the seats. Beneath that signature shaker hood lurks the normally aspirated, 32-valve, DOHC 4.6-liter V-8 that formerly powered the SVT Cobra. This was one of the world's best performance engines in the SVT machine, and nothing's changed for Mach 1 duty. All of the powerful mystique of the reborn Mach 1 can be admired up close and personal in this AUTOart authentic reproduction. (06/06/2004) |
