When it comes to intricate detail on a scale model, AutoArt now has to be the undisputed champion in this arena, and it is once again apparent in the perfect replication of this beautiful and elegant sports car. The body and paintwork of this model are perfect, with all the parts opening and closing with well-oiled precision. Tolerances are close enough to require turning the car over before the trunk can be opened. Great attention has been paid to the front and rear light clusters. Color matching is perfect and finishes the car off fabulously, right down to the black trim running the length of the sides through to the taillights.
But here are some things that make this model special! First, the interior is finished in the most beautiful red and sea green color scheme with the red carpets having a smooth velvety texture. Second, much of the detail requires the use of a magnifying glass to appreciate. The words "styled by giugiaro" are just visible on the side fenders. The recessed Lotus logo is also visible on the front wheel caps. The trunk lid has the name "LOTUS" in silver at the base of the rear windshield. Alongside it is a badge stating "World Champion Car Construction 1973,1972,1970, 1966, 1965 and 1963".
I have a couple of small gripes. I could not remove the engine cover as it's a bit tricky to lift, so I cannot comment on the detail spent on the engine. Also, it would have been nice to have more detail on the tire wall. However, this model is based on the car used in the movie. What separates this model from AutoArt's other '79 Lotus Esprit's are the color and the license plate which reads "PPW 306R" , identical to the one on the car which Roger Moore drove. AutoArt has also captured the fact that the front plates were white and the rear yellow, something I feel a lesser manufacturer would have missed.
