This is the 2005 Subaru WRX STi that was designed for World Rally Championship competition. The STi stands for Subaru Tecnica International, the high-performance and motorsports subsidiary of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. This all-wheel drive passenger car offers state-of-the-art performance in acceleration, braking and high speed handling.

300hp from a turbocharged intercooled 2.5 liter boxer 4 cylinder along with an equally incredible 300 ft-lbs of torque available at both ends of the rpm range make this one heck of an interceptor. Brembo brakes, 17" BBS wheels and high performance Bridgestone Potenza 225/45 ZR17 tires help keep this supercar from entering orbit. For the officer that prefers the more traditional RWD cruiser, there's a little control wheel on the console that can shift up to 65% of the available torque to the rear wheels.

The aerodynamic package includes a functional dual element rear spoiler along with front side spoilers on the bumper and special STi side ground effects. AutoArt's Impresive Impreza is decked out in standard Japanese police cruiser livery with the "Rising Sun" badge centered in the grill. The standard deflector mounted on the aluminum hood has a cutout to allow airflow to the huge hoodscoop that feeds cold air to the oversized intercooler. The boomerang shaped lightbar and PA system, as well all the lighting groups, are beautifully modeled looking as realistic as the actual police car. The interior contains a police radio with coiled mike wire as well as a dash mounted display screen. The rest of this model is well crafted and fairly contented with nicely scaled pile carpeting in the passenger compartment and trunk. All windows are fully glazed and crystal clear. All four door open and close precisely with minimal shut lines evident on all operating panels. The paint is smooth and color separation is precise. All four seats have cloth restraints with diecut metal hardware.

The engine compartment is busy enough but a bit on the plasticy side. The wiring and plumbing are molded in a minimal number of pieces that simulate rather than replicate. The chassis is mostly molded matte black plastic with the rear suspension and single exhaust the only obviously separate pieces. Again, it's 3 dimensional in appearance but assembled from a minimum of components. The suspension is static. Sitting on the shelf, this is one mean looking machine and is a nice companion for my pony car interceptors. With a 0-60 time under 4.8 seconds, though, this baby will smoke my 5.0 Mustang pursuit car without getting winded.

How good a cop car is this Subaru? The French have dumped their Peugeot and Renault chase cars replacing them with 63 of these 240km/h rockets for their Gendarmerie Nationale "rapid intervention" force. 156 officers are being trained to drive these cars at the Bugatti racing curcuit at Le Mans.
