This is one of the two faux cabriolets made for the Bond film "You Only Live Twice". Because Sean Connery could not squeeze into the 2000GT coupe. The top was removed and upholstered padding simulated a retracted soft top. Electronic gizmology between the seats hid the fact that you could see into the trunk under the faux top. Connery still looked rather foolish behind the wheel as his head was above the windscreen so a diminutive female "assistant" did the driving so he could slump down in the passenger seat.
This model replicates the current state of the car as it resides in the Toyota Museum. Oddly all the movie electronic gear have been removed which eliminated the illusion of a bulkhead between cockpit and trunk. An odd choice for display considering a cabriolet version was never put into production. It is the third iteration of this car and is upgraded to have opening side fender panels.
The model is part of the Millennium Division series and is a quality piece in both fit and finish. The wire wheels are plated plastic but display reasonably well. A light blackwash would eliminate the excessive brightness of the plating and would make it hard to differentiate from more expensive metal wires found in models at double the pricepoint. The engine bay is first rate AUTOart and the interior has the proper attention to details and textures.
