For those of us that are fans of the late Steve McQueen, I suppose this diecast is a 'must have'. It was for me. Autoart replicates the 917K that the actor drove in the movie, "Le Mans". There's good news and bad news. Let's start with the bad. At nearly $70.00, there is too much plastic material to the product. When the rear deck is elevated to display the engine, plastic is predominant. Even the rear chassis sub-structure is plastic. No prop-rod was found and the featureless engine lacks detail, definition and wiring. The windshield wiper is thick and unrealistic and the wheels and headlamps toy-like. The front fender louvers/vents are not cut all the way through, but the simulation through indentations, is carried out well. The good news is that the paint is slick, and the opening doors and engine hatch are precisely fit. The frontal nose piece removes and it too is fitted beautifully. Graphics are handled well and the interior, though again, plastic, comes off looking nice. The vinyl racing slicks look good and the ride height of the racer appears proper. There are several little feature additions to the body that add some realism to the look of the replica and this bears upon the legacy of the 1:1 Porsche. Is the model worth its price? How much did you like the movie and/or Steve McQueen? (12/2/1999)
