Jorge Muller, in his BMW 320i, won three races during the 2005 World Touring Car Championship and was instrumental in BMW winning the 2005 Manufacturer’s Championship. AutoArt’s 1:18 scale model of Jorge Muller’s #42 car is a real beauty!

The 2005 WTCC consisted of twenty 50 km. races contested in seven major European countries as well as Mexico, Turkey and Macau. Included were both factory teams and privateers racing BMW, Alfa Romeo, SEAT, Chevrolet, Peugeot, Toyota, Honda and Ford race cars. BMW definitely had a numerical advantage in the 2005 Manufacturer’s Championship fielding factory teams from Germany, the UK, Italy/Spain and Holland as well as eight privateer teams. They won the championship with a 36 point lead over second place Alfa Romeo.

Jorge Muller’s 59 points put BMW “over the top” to win the 2005 season.

AutoArt’s model of Muller’s car is another in its line of sealed-body-shell race cars. Although the doors, bonnet and boot are inoperable, the car has an incredible level of detail on the inside, outside and underside. If you look carefully, you can even see through the rollbars and back into the boot area and they’ve done a pretty good job of giving us this detail even though it’s almost impossible to see.. The engine is the main secret with this car and the chassis plate has hints of what it’s like, but only the transmission and exhaust are visible.

AutoArt “tumble polishes” their body-shell castings in much the same way that lapidary polishing is done and it shows. The bodies are smooth without so much as a hint of a mold parting line to be found. Their paint on this car is a beautiful, rich white with the tampo’ed livery and “x-ray” graphics being flawlessly presented. Because they haven’t given us engine detail, they’ve over-compensated in making all the little exterior details. Things like the hood pins, badging, grilles, towing straps, headlights, taillights and exhaust are all rendered at a level of detail that is way above the average.

Although it might be considered a “curbside” model, AutoArt’s execution has been exceptional, their paint and tampos being really “best of class”! Although the engine is hidden, this is still a beautifully done car worthy of addition to your collection.
