The 1969 Corvette was given a thorough review by the inimitable Mr. Perrone, so there’s no need for me to repeat it. However, I’d like to make a few comments about the “Stars and Stripes” edition of this image. I’m not usually one for these “graffiti” images. I don’t like 1:1 cars with too much in the way of graphics. I feel they take away from the overall “look” of the car’s lines. On the other hand, this sort of thing can work on a scale model. Having said that, let me quickly add that it isn’t often done well. FM, to their credit, has managed to do a patriotic, flag-draped version of one of their older Corvette images that really stands out. The paint job, representing Old Glory waving in the wind, is done to perfection. The design artist opted not to represent the entire flag but put part of the blue star field over the right front fender, allowing the white and red stripes to cover the rest of the image. Though I doubt I’d want to drive a real Vette with such a design, other than in a parade, this image manages to avoid looking totally tacky. If you don’t have the 1969 Corvette regular image, you might want to consider picking up this one. In view of the upsurge in flag popularity, this is a unique and interesting rendition of patriotic zeal at its best – and just in time for the first anniversary of 9/11. The issue price is $90.00.
