The 1928 Mercedes SSK was perhaps the fastest and most robust automobile produced up to that time, and it dominated the European racing circuit. 1928 marked the end of the historic tenure of Ferdinand Porsche as the head designer for Daimler Benz, and his "S" series helped secure Daimler's reputation for performance with its ground-breaking aluminum-block technology. The Mercedes SSK came in several varieties, and this is the touring version. It's an important part of the Mercedes legend, and this model is an adequate representation. It has a very nice exterior, which means it looks great on a shelf! The paint is smooth and shiny. The model has several chrome accents - exhausts, running boards, wire wheels and radiator. The windshield is interesting and adds to the character of the model. The hood is secured by a soft vinyl strap, and opens to reveal a powerful in-line powerplant, not particularly detailed but still cool. There are no doors or trunk - the dual spare is exernal. The weak point of this replica is the interior. The seats are hard plastic and they look it. The dashboard is just a decal. But if you can forgive that breech of style, this model is worth owning!
