Franklin Mint 1:24 1936 Ford Deluxe Cabriolet- Annual Automobile Festival Nbr Ltd Ed of 3000 (Disc) diecast car

Ford design engineer, E. T. “Bob” Gregorie, was responsible for Ford designs from 1935 to 1948. He designed the 1936 cabriolet, which has been called the most beautiful Ford ever. Traditional, yet modern, the ’36 had smooth lines, a jaunty, close-coupled size, and general good looks.

I chose the original FM version of the ’36 Cabriolet over DM’s because I generally liked the “look” better. Done in dark, Forest Green, with tan upholstery, and with Apple Green wheels and pin striping, it fairly shouted “authentic!” Now, FM – in their best Pebble Beach Limited Edition tradition – have re-released the image as a repainted limited edition (of 3000). (Actually, FM now does its limited editions as complements to its Annual Automobile Festival (AAF) event in September.) At one time, repaints were done in a green motif, but, since the '36 Cabriolet image was originally green, FM did it in red, with buff upholstery and wheels, and with no pin striping. The color change goes a long way toward changing the character of the image. It has all the nifty features of the original, so there was no need to upgrade a thing. (See Jay Engel’s fine review on the original for the particulars.) Don’t let the fact you already have the original release stop you from picking up this beauty.

The 1936 Cabriolet went a long way toward cementing the relationship between Ford and its legion of loyal owners. Though not the only nicely styled car of its era, it came at the right price. Then, Ford added some goodies to the package to make this car a classic from the start.

Formerly known as the Pebble Beach car, it has been retitled the AAF release for the Annual Autmobile Festival held at TFM headquarters in Media, PA each September. The issue price is $120.

*Editors note. This is the 8th in a special series of limited editions formerly called "Pebble Beach" cars. Since the first editions were first sold at the Pebble Beach Concours D'Elegance show, the name stuck. They will be known from here forward as AAF Event models. The previous editions:
1996 - White 1961 Lincoln
1997 - Green 1948 MGTC
1998 - Green 1949 Ford Convertible
1999 - Green and white 1955 Packard Caribbean
2000 - Blue 1930 Ford Tudor
2001 - Burgundy and black 1939 Maybach
2002 - Yellow and black 1936 Bugatti Atalante
2003 - Red 1936 Ford Cabriolet
