After the 1972 Indianapolis 500®, Roger McCluskey's long-time team owner, Lindsey Hopkins, bought the #12 McLaren M16B that Peter Revson had started in the middle of the front row at Indy® to replace the unsuccessful "computer-designed" Antares that McCluskey had driven at the Brickyard®. The 1972 Ontario 500 was on 3 September, and McCluskey started in 8th position. Gordon Johncock was the early leader in the #24 McLaren, but he wrecked on Lap 169, and McCluskey took the 1st postion. McCluskey finished the race with a lap on 2nd place Mike Hiss, subbing for Mark Donohue. (06/09/2007) |
