1936 was the year Auto Union and its young driver Bernd Rosemeyer came into their own. The German Grand Prix offered yet another clash of the titans that year, Mercedes-Benz vs. Auto Union. The highly talented Bernd Rosemeyer was able to handle the 16 cylinder powerhouse of the Auto Union Type C like no one else ever had. The mid-mounted engine of the vehicle, developed by Dr. Ferdinand Porsche, was now producing an astonishing 520 bhp. With his starting number 4, Bernd Rosemeyer achieved a prestigious victory. His teammate Hans Stuck, also on Auto Union Type C, came in 2nd. That year, Rosemeyer won the Eifel, German, Swiss and Italian Grand Prix. (01/26/2008) |
