Not counting independent dealer versions, this is Franklin’s fifth iteration of the Shelby Cobra 427 Street/Competition model, the eighth, overall. Additionally, Franklin has done two previous “Stars & Stripes” variants, both on Corvettes. The first, in 2002, was a patriotic repaint issue of their 1969 Corvette Coupe. The second, issued in 2007, was on the venerable 1967 Stingray. This, the third such red, white and blue American Flag paint theme, was applied to the gorgeous Cobra model they so well crafted to scale. As with the “Mistress of Fire” Cobra, the issue is all about the paint. TFM wrapped the familiar, muscular bodied Shelby in a scheme that starts from front to back. The stars, in a blue field, begin at the nose of the car and form an asymmetric pattern as they flow into the broad red and white stripes. They envelop the balance of the car in spectacular fashion. The little car has long been popular as a collectible, due; no doubt, to perfect stance and faithful reproduction of lines, curves and bulges that announces the Cobra as the 427 version. And while there is nothing enhanced or improved upon, the image stands out for what it is. If you are like me and collect all the iterations of the Cobra 427 S/C, then this is a must. (10/25/2007) |
