In 1:24th scale, a case could be made for Ebbro being the new kid on the block in terms of producing ‘mint’ or precision diecast cars. Their first, the Honda S2000, issued in 2001/2002, made many collectors stand up and take notice. Fit, finish and features were there and with a quality only seen in mint-type products. In the footsteps of that model came the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT. This year Ebbro has released the Nissan Fairlady Z-L and followed up with the Porsche series in white and yellow.
Richly laden with operating features and abundant detail, the first thing you will note as you handle the model is the perfect, almost diminutive ‘feel’ of the car. Long, low and sexy, the model sits with faultless stance. The doors are on spring-like hinges that, when closed, form a near watertight seal. The windows are replicated in the ‘up’ position so you need strong fingernails to grasp the door handle or the supplied tool that Ebbro includes with the diecast. So too, does the hood and rear hatch fit beautifully with no gaps whatever. There is velvety smooth carpeting on the floor, gorgeous dash that looks very realistically like wood and an awesome engine bay. When the hood is opened, a prop rod slides along the under-fender and locks into position. The engine is wired and plumbed and looks beautiful. Other opening features include the headlamp covers that swivel up together to reveal the big round chrome and clear plastic headlights. Two panels, one on each side front fender of the car, open to give access to such things as the battery box. Ebbro also utilizes a very clever idea giving us the ability to remove the running chassis and motor from the body presenting us with a better view of the details hidden by the body. Jack stands are also included to mount the body for a unique display opportunity. An extra steering wheel and column is included to complete that display.
For subject and attention to carrying out the elegant crafting of this little gem, I give the model 5 stars.
