In 1:24th scale, a case could be made for Ebbro being the new kid on the block in terms of producing ‘mint’ or precision diecast cars. Their first, the Honda S2000, issued in 2001/2002, made many collectors stand up and take notice. Fit, finish and features were there and with a quality only seen in mint-type products. In the footsteps of that model came the 1967 Toyota 2000 GT. This year Ebbro has released the Nissan Fairlady Z-L and followed up with the Porsche series in white and yellow. One of the most revered 911’s of all, the Carrera RS is well renown for its light, quick and powerful attributes. Producing 210 HP out of a 2.7L engine, hitting 5.8 seconds in 0-60 runs was pretty heady stuff for early ‘70’s machines. Toss in good looks and classic handling and you had a legendary dream car in the making. Ebbro captures that beautifully in this gorgeous little piece. In bright, flawlessly applied white or yellow, with red accent name/stripe and wheels, the replica will highlight most collections and draw your eye to it. The fit is outstanding as the doors, trunk lid and rear winged engine hood all close seamlessly into the body. The doors are on internal spring hinges that snap shut and align perfectly. The details are many. Tire valve stems, interior features, such as dash gauges, well scaled wipers, engine and trunk stickers, engine wiring and wonderfully scaled insignias and emblems all add to a well thought out and lovely made diecast model. Extra touches include extra-nice chrome trim around door windows and the rear window and the windshield. Removing four easy-to-get-to screws, allows you to remove the engine cradle. This permits viewing of all the detail work on the engine and lets you present a very different looking display. The model comes with an engine stand for this purpose; a couple of jack stands for the motorless car and a most welcomed tool to help you open the body panels. As with the other models in their 1:24th lineup, the steering wheel does not turn the front wheels but they can easily be posed to the right or left by moving them manually. I have to give this little cutie a 5 star rating for form, content and selection of subject matter. Well done Ebbro, keep it up. (06/20/2003) |
