A bit of an anomaly, the polished aluminum version of the highly popular Cobra Daytona series is more than a mongrel. Now don't get me wrong, it is absolutely stunning in person. It can be envisioned as a model complete but waiting for paint. It conjures up memories of the Delorean, made in stainless steel, but it is a Cobra Daytona through and through. Maybe even two of them, a 1964 and 1965 Cobra Daytona amalgamation. The wheels and outside exhausts would have you believe it came from the 1964 set of Cobra models. The 1964 cars, #5, #6 and #15 have that set of features. The aluminum iteration shares the same hood port where the 1965 version has the extended spoiler to induce additional airflow. Yet the indention on the back of the rear spoiler and the larger rear fender flaps indicate a 1965 model. True the white #56 has the smaller flaps as do the '64's. The interior in black with a black steering wheel would lead you to think it is closer to the #26 car as both the white #56 and red #59 have a tan steering wheel. Differences aside, it is truly a beautiful model indicative of all Exoto works. If you are looking for a 'different' model, like the Daytona Coupe but do not necessarily want to collect the 'historically significant' series, this would be a good pick. (06/14/2000)
