Corvette's Grand Sport Roadster is a veritable hot rod inflicted with a liberal dosage of DDG (Drop Dead Gorgeous). Exoto's rendition, in 1:18th scale, suffers from the same malady. It is presented in prototype form with no racing livery. The unparalleled beauty of its graceful lines is even further enhanced by the brilliant silver paint. An aerodynamic roll bar serves double duty as an active spoiler. Just beneath it on the pilot's side of the car is a bullet-shaped head restraint. The black restraint section 'gives' to the touch. The now familiar interior is largely unchanged from the Coupe iterations save for minor alterations. The pale blue seat inserts are gone and are now entirely dark blue. Since the roof was removed by 1966 it could not support the rearview mirror so it came to rest on a tripod arrangement secured to the dash. The hood, probably the best-looking affair on any of the Grand Sports, is the same as the #14 car. Hood strap included. Under this muscular cover is the same engine in all its detailed glory. The twin rear fender scoops are slightly taller but the grillwork and the side vents are the same as previous models with the exception of the #67 car. It does share the white exhausts with that car however. The trunk lid still opens by pressing a small button underneath but displayed is a fifth Goodyear spare instead of the Firestone. The Firestone spare came with the previous Grand Sports that were later shod with Goodyear's for racing. The infinitely small photoetched Corvette insignia is now left rear. A photoetched Corvette license plate completes the gorgeous package. (07/12/2000)
