The history of the GT-40 is well documented. Exoto's website documents the #2 car, depicted here, even more fully. But the model itself replicates the actual historic 1:1 car perhaps better than any other authentic racing model I have seen to date. Exoto makes phenomenal use of many varied materials and components to produce this incredibly accurate diecast model. Operational functions add to the absolute enjoyment of this piece of history and the fit and finish do their part to further enhance the wonderful result. As you look at the car, you can see miniature wire mesh as grillwork. Infinitely small gauge wire and hood pins work with the miniature Dzus fasteners. Under the bonnet you will find headlight wiring, brake ducting, hoses and lines. Inside, the seating material feels real, as does the treatment to the inside doors. Minute cables are seen attached to the battery. Use of materials is best viewed in the engine bay, however.

Jewel-like wire tethers hold the hood open. Miniature springs replicate braided hoses flawlessly. Even throttle return springs are perfectly in place as you view the big 427. Fuel lines, operational suspension springs and braided transmission lines, secured with blue and red aluminum-replicated fittings are as realistic as any you have seen. Even the 'bundle of snakes' exhaust pipes are treated to heat discoloration and the exit stacks are held down with real metal springs. Photo-etched metal panels complete the rear of the engine bay. Fit is astounding. With hood pins removed, the front hood panel lifts up. The entire nose also opens. The door and engine hatch fit is perfection and the doors spring closed with a mere touch. The paint is typical Exoto - impeccable. Easily a 5 star model, Exoto once again raises the bar.
