Once again, Exoto astonishes us with such accurate depiction of detail and use of modeling materials in fabricating their models. Case in point, this MKIV #4. More streamlined than its forebear 1966 MKII, the car appears slinky, more fully proportioned and deadly fast. Exoto’s deep blue paint carries a mirror finish with a weekend-long wax-like shine. The white racing graphics add good contrast. There are six opening features to this lovely model. The doors open on spring loaded hinges that snap shut. The engine hatch and hood open and there is a fuel access panel fore of the drivers door and a liftable spare tire hatch on the engine cover. Be careful of the photoetch rivet on it, one of three on the upper body. They are so realistically scaled that they can shred a dust cloth.

Tilting the nosepiece forward reveals the dramatically detailed front suspension, torsion arm and steering box. The battery, below it, is rich in detail. Even the headlights are fully wired. The radiator is photoetch, front and back. The red spring coil-overs can actually be seen flexing as the suspension works. The rotors can also be seen turning within the brake calipers. Moving back to the cockpit, we can see the rich detail and further use of various materials. The seat has a suede-like feel, the belts are made of fabric with photoetch buckles. There are braided metal hoses on the left side of the car simulating fuel lines and separately fashioned roll cage components. The dash is thoroughly readable and a bundle of control panel wiring in yellow and red is visible under a wire mesh on the dash top. Nice detail touch.

The engine bay will completely please the most sophisticated collector’s palate. The Ford 427 is treated to finely crafted and accurately scaled orange plug wiring. Braided fuel hoses with anodized red and blue fittings are evident and the fully functioning suspension is dedicated to holding up the rear. The dual four barreled carbs take center stage perched atop the intake manifold. Under glass, you can see the braided lines and throttle linkage. The clear doom, used to force feed outside air to the eight hungry ports, is held down by four miniature springs. Real ones. They match the ones holding the exhaust tips that flow rearward and exit the body below the spoiler. Six photoetch rivets fasten it to the body. Realism flows from stem to stern on this beautiful diecast model. Racing fan or not, any collector would be proud to show this car off. It easily garners five stars in my book.
