Eddie Keizan, a well known and liked South African race driver, thrilled the home-town crowd when he placed second in the 1973 South African Grand Prix Series driving the Tyrell Ford 004. He drove the car seen here in the Lucky Strike colors, in the World Championship South African Grand Prix at Kyalami. This is yet another bullseye for Exoto detail and accuracy. The model is brilliant in this color scheme. Departing from the look of the Tyrell-Ford 003's, the only other obvious difference is the switch from Good-year rubber to Firestone. The diminutive diecast is awash with intricate detail from nose to tail. The working suspension takes center stage on this replica, with perfectly formed springs doing the main duty while sandwiched liberally between torsion bars and suspension bracing in gleaming chrome. The dual overhead cam V-8 is Exoto-splendid in wiring and fuel lines as, delighted, you look at it from above. From below, the bundle of snakes exhaust tubing flows past the huge inboard brakes and hydraulic lines replicated so expertly. The generous use of photoetched metal and the scrubbed wide tires lend a properly racy look to the 004, as does the figure of Eddie Keizan harnessed into the cockpit. Authenticity, detail and quality of production, all well-known hallmarks of Exoto, never looked better than with this beautiful little diecast. A great addition for the F-1 fans collection.
