Exoto 1:18 1976 Tyrell Ford P34 6 Wheel #3- Jody Scheckter- Grand Prix of Sweden Winner diecast car

The Tyrell Ford P34, designed by Derek Gardner, was known in Formula 1 racing as the "Six-Wheeler". Gardner reasoned that entering and exiting the corners faster, by minimizing induced drag and reducing lift at the front end, would give a tremendous advantage to this Grand Prix car. In its maiden race, the Grand Prix of Sweden at Anderstorp, driver Jody Scheckter won the pole position and the race itself utilizing this very advantage. Teammate Patric Depailler finished second to hammer the point home.

Viewing this diecast from any angle rewards your eyes with plenty of intricate detail to examine. The extensive use of photo-etched parts mimics reality and brings this F-1 car to life. The steering wheel controls all four front wheels and the suspension is 'live' both front and rear. The inboard brake rotors turn effortlessly within their calipers nearly stealing the thunder from the rear suspension components. Exhaust headers are individually cast, metal brake ducting snakes its way along the chassis just as intended and the body fairly screams 'aerodynamics'. From the top of the OHV Ford motor, where wire mesh gauze is visible on the velocity stacks, to the bottom where details such as the starter assembly, fluid coolers, plumbing, wiring and painfully complete racing slick detail are all splendidly reproduced, the racing chassis and engine are authentic. The body shows painted details, not decals. In my opinion, except for the real car, this is the finest Tyrell Ford P34 ever built. It is a marvel in modern diecast detail and a piece of hand-held history. (10/7/1999)
