Exoto has created a new "Exoto 43" line of 1/43 models. The inaugural release consists of two scale model variants of the Alfa Romeo 500 racing car transporter that saw both pre- and post-war duties for their factory teams.
The first release in yellow and black Scuderia Ferrari livery is the transporter for Nuvolari's winning Alfa Romeo 12C-36 at the 1936 Vanderbilt Cup Grand Prix race at Roosevelt Raceway in Westbury, Long Island. The second release, the red "Gomme Pirelli" truck was the transporter used by the Alfa Romeo factory team on the 1950-51 Formula 1 curcuit.
These are beautifully crafted and well detailed models with great paint and tampo'd livery, complete cockpit and storage area. An intricate locking mechanism actuated by the door handle opens and secures the doors with a locking rod. Photoetched parts, finely sculpted cast hood ornaments, separate window frames, mirrors and wipers, raised lettered Pirelli tires and even separate opened vents on the S.F. truck bonnet help make the exterior look very realistic. Separate loading ramps are included with each truck to facilitate diorama possibilities. The chassis is nicely modeled including separate suspension parts, drive train, exhaust system and spare tire.
Unusual subjects executed with unusual precision, and at a suggested retail price of $129, they certainly provide extraordinary quality, content, detail and versatility for the collector at that pricepoint. Let's hope there'll be more 1/43 models from Exoto in the future
