Like the first Exoto/Standox offering, the Shelby Cobra Daytona Paradise, the Imola Ice Grand Sport is pure modeling magnificence. By now a good many collectors know that Standox has been a leading force in automotive refinishing for nearly half a century. They currently feature an 'Exclusive Line' of paint colors that include Silverstone Blue, Monza Red, Indianapolis Green, Monte Carlo Magic, Interlagos Fire, Suzuka Sun, Kyalami Flash, Daytona Paradise, Imola Ice and Laguna Seca Sky. Like a chameleon, these paints change color tones with varying light sources and angles. Imola Ice blends an exotic mixture of pewter silver with a cool, pale shade of green and a warm pinkish hue. On this 1963 Corvette, the effect is brilliant. The color's name comes from Imola Motordrom in San Marino. It is home to the European Grand Prix. Unlike the Cobra Daytona Paradise taken from Exoto's Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe #6 car production line, this Grand Sport is similar to the Corvette prototype, the #50, 65 and 80 cars, due to its hood configuration. Even more importantly, it differs from the Cobra in that the Corvette interior is a new variant altogether. Instead of the usual Grand Sport blue, the dash, seat sides, door panels and rollbar are black in the Imola Ice Limited Edition! The seat centers are gray instead of pale blue. The same phenomenal detail is present, in the photoetched parts, engine wiring and plumbing and the working suspension. Each Exoto product is breathtaking while Exoto/Standox models are even more special but color this Imola Ice Corvette radiantly beautiful. (05/23/2000)
