The ultimate boy-toy for the SUV lover.... painted in Standox Catalunya Splash... named for the Spanish Formula l Grand Prix track near Barcelona (hard to picture this beast running with that crowd!) And what a beast it is! How many engine bays have you seen with critical components adorned with "No Step" signs? The center console that could easily house a home entertainment center separates two lavish captain's chairs and the rear sports two outboard buckets and an inboard twin bench sitting over the trans/driveshaft and exhaust housing. As a 1/18 replica, this heavy chunk of iron will not fit the standard 1/18 display case.... it really needs garage space!

Fit and finish is excellent and you'll need the special tool provided to open all the 7 operating panels except the hood. The big V8 is wired and it's components are well represented. The massive cooling system takes up most of the underhood space as the engine is set back halfway beyond the firewall and the front and top grillwork is delicately screened. The interior is well done with the 3-point harness buckles in plastic but the belting is done in very realistic elastic material. The only downside are the gauges, stereo, and AC vents are printed appliques.

All and all though, it's one impressive machine. So what is "Catalunya Splash", you ask? Well.... it's kind of a blue-black that changes to....? OK, here's the official Standox description: Catalunya Splash conjures up a whole cascade of blue onto the bodywork. The paint generates an exciting interplay of colours in changing light conditions. A mysterious lavender is superseded by a deep, ocean blue crowned by sparkling amethyst I'm not sure if that helps, but it's a better description than I could come up with. BTW.... anyone know what that wrench looking thing is for? (12/07/2000)
