Exoto 1:18 1963 Chaparral 2 - Standox Version

Exoto 1:18 1963 Chaparral 2 - Standox Version diecast car

Not until you see this model up close in this color, can you fully appreciate its beauty. Roughly based on Exoto's 1963 Chaparral 2 - Shark Fin Fenders replica, the car looks like something from outer space or the depths of the ocean. Either way it appears as a predatory creature with fins a-flare and gills wide open, ready to pounce on the unsuspecting. Not unlike the ‘60’s race car did to its track victims. The radical styling of this vehicle is totally dependent on its purpose built mission as a race winner. But if you do not care for race livery, this is your model. Detune this ravenous monster, put it on the street today and you’re guaranteed to see collisions from rubbernecking drivers, four decades removed, trying to figure out what this is.

If you can look past the awesome rakishness of the bodywork and the incredible paint job in Interlagos Fire, a color by the way, that oscillates from a gold-flecked terracotta to reddish violet, you will be face to shark finned face with Exoto’s unbelievable mastery of detail, model art and material use from diecast heaven.

Take those UFO body panels off and be prepared to be blown away by detail and material use like you probably have not seen before now. In glorious 1:18 sizing, you can see fine wire, wire mesh, flexible air duct tubing, braided lines, individual gauge and switch wiring, fabric belts and photoetch pieces everywhere, plug wires, fuel and brake lines and operational pieces you may have only experienced in dreams. The doors open out, tethered by fine wire, the suspension articulates fore and aft, the internal fuel cell filler caps open; external body panel doors open to give access to them, and the wheels turn within the brake rotors. There are too many small and terrific details to enumerate, another reason why this model must be seen in person. How Exoto can sell the model at this price without compromising the details within is another mystery of the deep.

This is an Exoto “Dot Com Premiere” exclusive ready for purchase now on their website or at Legacy Motors as shown below. 5 Interlagos Fire-breathing stars.
