This is a high wing version of the famed McLaren Can -Am series of sports cars, driven by Denny Hulme. The Chaparral-type rear airfoil added down force to the rear wheels. Powered by an aluminum 430 cid, the Chevy big block reportedly put out over 680 hp! GMP recreated this beauty in detail! My pre-production sample's rear wing removes as a multi-piece unit. A unique base pin mounting is used, just like on the real car. The 2-piece rear section can be removed to reveal a detailed Chevy big block. The engine is wired and plumbed. "Doors" also open. The bright orange exterior grabs you and the delicate tampo printing is correctly scaled. It's nice to see that scale was preserved, as many manufacturers tend to enlarge tampos. This practice not only detracts from a model's appearance, but also makes a model appear toy-like. The interior is nicely detailed in this scale, as well. Tires have tampo "Goodyear" logos. The interior details include a fire bottle and seat belt detail. (03/12/2002) |
