If you’ve purchased GMP’s masterful 1:18 scale version of the Pierson Brothers Coupe and, if you’re a lover of dioramas, you may wish to pick up the Pierson Brothers Diorama—also by GMP. It’s a recreation, in 1:18 scale, built around a photo showing the Pierson brothers crew, on the flats in 1950, pushing their coupe into life before its history making run.
GMP took a wood base, created an insert that looks like a piece of salt flat, and added a Masonite placard with a copy of the aforementioned photo on it. To complete the scene, three 1:18 scale human figures—representing the three-man crew—can be mounted to the base. All you need do is add the model of the famous coupe (what, you didn’t think they were going to throw it in, did you?), position the figures around it, and sit back and imagine yourself as one of the spectators that windy morning out on the flats at Bonneville.
I've always loved dioramas and this one’s no exception. You can set it up with the Pierson Brothers Coupe, or perhaps the So-Cal coupe, the Precision Miniatures So-Cal Belly Tanker, or one of the various 1:18 salt flats racers put out by Highway 61. You can even position one, two, or all three of the figures around another car, since they’ll adjust to accommodate them. Having the photo of the P-B Coupe in the background wouldn’t look out of place either. Your choice of model would look like another entry getting ready to run next.
A great deal of the charm of collecting scale model images of favorite cars comes from the realism invested in them by the manufacturers—and nothing adds to the realism like a diorama. Don’t wait too long to order yours, however, for GMP’s out of warehouse stock on these. Fortunately, Legacy Motors still has them. So, pick this one up and go racing!
