The 1968 Dodge Dart GT Sport was a true muscle car. It had a 383, with a four-barrel carburetor shoehorned under the hood, plain-Jane, painted wheels, and a relatively Spartan interior. This car wasn’t intended to carry its driver in luxury. What it was supposed to do was move that driver along—very fast. In that regard, it succeeded very well.
I’m quite impressed by the array of goodies Highway 61 provides for the relatively low price point. Let’s look at the image first. The paint job is flawless and shiny in silver (it also comes in racing green & red). Chrome detailing on the exterior is generally well done and appears to be to scale. All door, hood and trunk gaps are tight. There’s also a full suspension system. The doors work with car-style, spring-loaded hinges. The antenna can be moved up and down. The engine detailing (with all wiring and hoses) is excellent. Undercarriage detailing is more than up to par, with a rotating driveshaft. The interior is also up to par, with 3-D features, soft seats (with molded seams and welts), and a carpeted floor (no mats). Other features include: wheels with valve stems, tilt-in vents, aluminized door sills, cloth seatbelts with photo-etched metal tangs, and door lock buttons. A polishing cloth and examination tool (similar to the FM item, for opening doors, lids, hatches, etc.) are included—not too shabby for a $50 image. You also get a dust cover for dust-free display. Nits to pick? The wipers aren’t chromed for some reason (why not?) and look cheesy. The shift lever looks overlarge, surprising in the larger 1:18 scale.
For the most part, this 1:18 scale image looks sharp on display. Different features stand out well in the larger scale. If you collect 1:18 scale images, this one’s a keeper—with lots of extras for the price.
