Here's another great little car made by Die Cast Promotions (AKA: Highway-61) for Supercar Collectibles and it's a beauty. . It's the second release from the '70 Challenger mold and the first T/A model finished in B-5 Blue with matte black fiberglass hood and graphics. This model also offers a few corrections and upgrades from the first R/T model including better centering of the rear wheels within their wells. It is a limited edition of 1998. This is an awesome looking model that exudes all the pentup testosterone of the original 1:1. The T/A package also includes a rear spoiler, front valance spoilers and side exiting dual exhausts. The powerplant here is the potent 340cid V8 with 3 2bbl carbs... the "SIX PAK". It's a little bit of Trans Am for the common man.

The exterior benefits from great shape, tight shutlines, great chrome, the foil trim peculiar to H-61 is much better on this model than those preceding. The grill with "Challenger" script is a delicately accurate piece although all but the script should be blackened. The lenses and rear light bar are all real plastic and realistic in appearance. The sport wheels are delicately modeled and have both polished and matte elements. These wheels are shod with Goodyear Polyglas 60s. The little details like the "Killer Bee" decals on the rear windows, the fine mesh on the hood vents, and the hood fasteners with real cotter pins really bring a smile.

To open the hood, you need to remove those cotter pins. If you're all thumbs, there's a bag of extra pins in the trunk. The hood opens with a pair of spring actuated scissor hinges and reveals a very well done engine compartment in which all the major components, wiring and plumbing are well moldeled.

The undercarriage displays well despite the prominent screw mounting recepticles. The factory overspray of body paint has been replicated. The suspension is operational, as is the driveshaft when the wheels are rotated. The emergency brake cables are real wire. The molded-in details are picked out with paint. The trunk has the proper patterned plastic lining and the jack components, including instruction sheet, and minispare.

The interior is complete, from the acoustically textured headliner with articulated sun visors to the plush carpet with floor mats. The seat belts are fabric with metal hardware and the seats are soft and articulated. All the hardware is chromed. The wood-handled shifter appears either a bit too large or the dash itself is mounted too low. There is a very realistic appearance to the upholstery, both in pattern and texture. It actually looks a bit more plush than the original plasticy look I remember.

When all is said and done, this is just what you'd love to see when you look out into your driveway.... just 18 times larger. This is a 5 star collaboration between H-61 and Supercar Collectibles.
