Each one of Highway 61's series of 1967 Plymouth Satellites is slightly different that the other. This is the 'Custom' version. It appears as a period-correct street urchin just spoiling for a race. The model has an endearing quality of a '60's era muscle machine with a perfectly 'bad boy attitude'. To distinguish it as the custom in the series, Highway 61 outfitted it with some sixties mags, complete with simulated valve stems, and skinny straight line front tires. Backing them up are drag slicks in period-standard widths ready to attempt some traction magic. (Not too easy when you consider the elephant motor in this mover and shaker) Highway 61 did a great job in capturing the overall proportion and 1:1-faithful shape of the Satellite. In this modest color combo it takes on the air of a true ‘sleeper’. If, while at a stoplight, you did not notice the little “426 Hemi” emblem on the front fender bottom, you’d be in for a whuppin’! Underneath the model you will see decent detail. The suspension is operational and the driveshaft runs with the rear wheels. There is simulated emergency brake cabling and some slight overspray but not at all detractive from the overall image. The trunk has the same Spartan appearance as the real car; simulated jacking tools and a jacking instruction sticker affixed to the trunk lid. The interior is a delight. Internal hinges on the doors allow nice visual access to it and snap shut when you’re finished with your examination. The seats slide forward and backward, flip forward allowing rear seat entry and the visors fold down. The steering is precise and the dash and console offer good detail. Oh yeah, even the center console box opens. The engine is another big plus here. Open the hood on its nicely detailed scissors hinges, genuine springs in place, and you see the price of admission for back in the day – that 426 hemispherical combustion chamber head V-8 from Mopar heaven! Highway 61 did an admirable job in recreation here. Excellent wiring and battery cabling; good painted detail contrasts and nice under-the-hood simulation. You can even read, with the help of a magnifier, the radiator informational sticker that addresses coolant temps. This is a high-end detail and function-rich model at a medium-end price. I LIKE!
