As of this writing, Chevrolet has just officially unveiled the C6 Corvette for 2005. And already, I am looking at a 1:18th scale diecast of it made by Mattel, Inc., fabricated in 2003. Obviously they have had access to the pre-production prototypes. Judging from the photos, broken earlier than GM envisioned by a student who happened upon the TV commercial production company shoot, late in ’03, this model is a perfect clone. There is a lot of plastic in this fabrication. The nose and tail caps are plastic, as is the interior, wheels, engine and hatchback subsection. That aside, the image has the correct stance, shape and is relatively well detailed. The engine, dash and console assembly are nicely delineated and paintwork is smooth and rich. For less than $30, this is a very nice piece and it gets an early jump on the other Chevrolet makers that produce the popular marque’s flagship. (01/17/2004) |
