Kyosho has long been recognized for outstanding accuracy and detail in 1:18th scale. Just as several companies have approached their standards, Kyosho has raised the bar with this BMW Z8. Initially marketed through BMW of North America Inc., found at: http://www.bmw-online.com/, the model celebrates the premiere of the 1999 James Bond movie, "The World is not Enough". The movie is number 19 in a series that has always celebrated the exotic where wheeled transport is concerned.
The diecast comes close to Exoto standards, only lacking the intense detail therein. Yet there is an awful lot to like, especially for the money. You are struck first by the paint finish: rich, even and thoroughly smooth. Next, let's talk about door gaps. Sharpen your fingernails. To get the trunk and hood open, it's necessary because of the extremely close build tolerances. The doors are spring-hinged. They open easily and spring shut at the slightest touch. BMW emblems are imbedded in the metal front and rear, and add to the gorgeous detailing of the replica. The engine is wonderfully detailed and plumbed, the trunk and cabin softly carpeted. The dash has 3-D gauges, 'soft feel' seats and something new, fabric seatbelts with tiny silver seatbelt buckles. They are fed through the miniature guides on the seat-tops. The simulated stitching on the convertible top boot is perfect and has the same soft feel. The 'up' top is also included and boasts the fabric texture of the real item. It replaces the removable boot.
The unit comes packed in a precision-type Styrofoam package reminiscent of the Mint variety. This replica helps its scale take a large leap forward into affordable precision diecast realm.
