Lane Collectibles 1:18 1968 Shelby GT500 - Limited Edition Zone Car IV- Ltd Ed of 1000

I had a chance to visit with Raffi Minasian and examine the pre-production piece photographed here. He has worked on every facet of the project with Eric Trapp and the staff at Exact Detail from the project’s outset.

My first impression is that the model really captures the muscular bodywork of the Mustang fastback together with the Shelby design details. The body lines and details are perfectly scaled and even a cursory examination reveals layer on layer of intricate detail that makes this the most exact replica of a muscle car I’ve ever seen. Raffi noted that unlike several other models that are reworks of standard Mustang fastbacks, this Shelby was tooled and documented from a show winning original from day one.

Although there is some tweaking still to be done on some of the finer points, body panel fitment is drum tight. The dark green paint draws up just short of black in low light, but shows a rich metallic color when seen in bright artificial or sun light, perfectly replicating the 1:1 photos from our original Legacy Spotlight presentation.

The engine compartment, filled nearly to capacity, is fully wired, with intricately detailed engine components, scaled fan belts made of real rubber, and complete engine bay markings.

The undercarriage has a working driveshaft, real metal brake lines, detailed suspension, and importantly, each is complete with the correct colors and finishes.

The real strength of the Zone’s rendition of the GT500 is its interior. It needs to be said first that this pre-pro’s interior color is too light and will be changed to reflect the darker saddle color, not unlike a baseball glove, of the final product. As with many closed roof cars, a dark, typically black, interior hides a great deal of detail. Exact Detail has put in the overtime so that the textures and finishes of this model have been captured with extra care. All the surfaces have been painted and textured to bring a "photo-real" appearance to the interior, so it would have been a shame to hide it all. The Zone Shelby’s interior color really allows the wood-grain dash, fabric and etched metal seatbelts, textured seat inserts, and scaled instruments to be featured and make clear just what a tour-de-force this new tool is.
