Mattel Legends 1:24 1970 Plymouth Barracuda- Don "the Snake" Prudhomme Funny Car (Electronic) diecast car

Don Prudhomme's 1970 Plymouth Barracuda "Snake" is now available in two versions- "Legends to Life" series in which electronic gadgetry is married to diecast model, and in the "standard" Legends format. Let's start with the model itself - a nicely done 1:24 replica of the Snake. As in the real thing, the body tilts up to reveal all the details of the chassis. Designer Bob Wood and his associates have done a nice job in replicating the aluminum body work, down to the rivets, and the engine, rear parachute pack and bird cage all are well executed.

OK, let's talk about the electronics. These are certainly not something we're used to, and many pre-issue comments on the Bulletin Board took umbrage with the very idea. Here's what you get: A Lions drag strip announcer describes the race, the car does a wheelie, the tires are supposed to spin (ours didn't - gotta figure out what we did wrong,) the fan belt turns, the side and rear exhausts flicker with internal lighting in time to the recorded engine revs, and the "Christmas Tree" starting lights go off in sequence. The car shudders, etc. Quite an act, but how long will the thrill last? An internally built tape recorder in the console provides an interview with Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. If you can't abide the idea of electronics, then you'll want the "standard" version. PS: There's no 1:64 version with the electronic package, but it does come with the driver behind the wheel. There's no driver in the "standard" version.

ORDERING INFORMATION The two-car standard set costs $120 + $5.95 S&H. To order your Snake, follow the directions on the Mattel Legends Store Site. TELL THEM YOU GOT THIS INFO FROM THE DIECAST WEBSITE!
