This "popularly priced" diecast model from Maisto is the star of the many under-priced bargains in their product line. Like many replicas costing three times the price, the Porsche 550A Spyder is well detailed and very much an "eye-catcher". I believe it will surely be one of the most collectible models Maisto has offered.
This 1:18th scale diecast features a luscious finish, in black or silver, that is the rival of any Lane, Carousel 1, or Franklin Mint offering. My sample had no orange peel and a first class finish. Chrome, what little there is of it, is very nice. Wheels are very well detailed and true to the original style. Maisto seems to make some of the most accurate wheels in the diecast market. The interior is as detailed as an AutoArt model selling for two or three times the price. The engine compartment is above average although falls short of "mint" quality. The real strength of the Maisto's 550A Spyder is its stunning overall appearance! Few car models will look better sitting on your shelf at any price. Of the two color options, I prefer the harder to find black, but either will make excellent additions to any 1:18 diecast collection.
What can $20 bring these days? A lot! I consider this, and the Maisto Porsche 356, to be the Best Buys in diecast modeling! (09/16/1999)
