Dodge designed their “Copperhead” 2-place convertible to be an affordable sports car for more average income buyers than their high priced “Viper.” The Front engine with rear wheel drive Copperhead layout will appeal to many drivers. The Copperhead is eight inches shorter overall than the Viper but has twelve inches longer wheelbase. The Copperhead is powered by a 2.7 Liter V-6 with four cams producing a modest 220 HP. I suspect there is a lot more on tap for future needs. The engine is harnessed to a 5-speed manual transmission. Maisto is well known for producing Concept vehicles and has done a fine job with their Copperhead model. The large 5-spoke wheels look great with the low profile Goodyear tires. The full-sized Copperhead uses 18” X 8” front and 20” X 9” on the rear. The copper color paint contrasts well with the black interior. The engine compartment is very well detailed. Louvers are cut through the hood. The rear end has a nice rounded look The windshield frame is especially nice with a black edge on the glass and another black weather seal on the rear edge. Everything fits well with doors, hood and rear deck lid having very thin lines. If Dodge were to produce this car, they may have to change the name because many would want other color options. Another nice model from Maisto. (09/16/2001) |
