I love oddball cars and this is certainly one of those. MCC has modeled the very first factory-offered Chevrolet Station Wagon. It is beautifully executed in many ways and shortchanged in others. The operating features are curiously stilted: the front doors open, the rear doors do not; the liftgate opens while the tailgate remains fixed; the steering is functional but the tierods are toy-like. MCC needs to learn a little more about what the collector really wants in replica content.

This is a very sturdy model. It captures the funkiness of the original design and is a replica we would not ordinarily see. It's very large and somewhat imposing in its presence. The interior detail is very good but difficult to see due to the small window openings; the engine is a well-detailed replica of the famous Chevy "Stovebolt" that was in every Chevrolet from 1932 to 1954. It's viewable underneath a very accurately-depicted "butterfly" hood (the last to appear on a Chevrolet). A simulated "canvas" covered spare tire is mounted in the rightside fenderwell, just as it was on the original.

This model receives 3.5 stars out of 5--lowered by my distaste for "cost cutting" in the wrong places. It gets high marks for its unusual subject matter, its fit and finish, and its overall charm.
