You either love it or hate it. Its looks were never conventional. There was a good deal of success behind Ferruccio Lamborghini's Miura, one of the first mid-engine production cars. He wanted something more outlandish to come out of Sant Agata, Italy. Between 1971 and 1989, he built it. A red-hot rocket ship built to stretch her graceful legs to a claimed 200+mph. The Marcello Gandini styling is outrageous and truly expresses the Italian term for incredibility, Countach! (Pronounced Koon-tahsh) Standing next to the door, the roof comes level to the belt buckle of an average sized man. Five liters, 4 valves per cylinder, unleashing 455 bhp, it was FAST! Replaced by the Diablo in 1990, Lamborghini kept the claim of fastest production car alive for some time. This is FM's 1991 release of the S 5000 version for 1985. Now discontinued, the butterfly wing doors fit precisely; interior, engine bay and trunk (up front) are detailed well for that year. There are no gaps in any panel; door, trunk or engine cover. Though I attach a low degree of difficulty to its completion for lack of wiring, a plastic spare instead of rubber, and a slightly higher stance than there should be, high marks are earned for flawless overall execution of the replica. Tires, wide and properly racy, are embossed beautifully with the manufacturer's name. The underbelly is detailed perfectly. Paint is smooth and rich, accented dramatically in black and the model looks and feels true to being one of the first cars to receive the term "exotic car". The issue price was $105. DISCONTINUED 1998. (11/08/1998) (12/30/1998) |
