Paul's Model Art 1:24 1931 Mercedes-Benz SSKL #87 Mille Miglia Winner- Rudolf Caracciola- (D/C) diecast car

Super Sport Kurz Leicht: this was the final evolution of the S series which had originated in 1927. The second S was added the following year and displacement raised to 7065cc. The SS was soon joined by the SSK, characterized by a shorter wheelbase (2950mm against 3400mm) to improve handling and save weight. By 1930 the project was showing its age, but Hans Niebel, with meticulous effort, managed to lighten the car by 130kg. The compression ratio was raised to 7:1, the power increased to 300hp and the SSKL was born! An odd monster with enormous power, at the 1931 Mille Miglia the SSKL was given little or no chance against the agile, brand new Alfa of Nuvolari. But Rudolf Caracciola tricked his overly confident opponents, driving his #87 into the annals of automotive legend. For the first time the Mille Miglia winner was not Italian!

PMA's rendition is a fine tribute to this historical car, perfectly capturing its line. In the correct White/Purple finish, the model reproduces the 1931 M.M. winning car in even the tiniest detail: the three headlamps have screens, the cap of the impressive radiator is correctly missing the star, race numbers are located on the sides. The wire wheels, painted purple with a chromed hub, are an absolute masterpiece, as are the Continental tyres! Once worked free of the tiny buckle which holds a real leather strap, the hood can be opened, revealing a stunning reproduction of the 6-cylinder engine with its typical three-in-one exhaust arrangement. The interior is equally impressive with its incredible array of dials, the leather seats, the steering wheel (workable) and every control needed to handle this monster! Now discontinued, the issue price was $195. (07/17/1999)
