This is one of the vintage models that gets very little mention. I always call it the forgotten Duesenberg. At first glance it looks like the 1930 J Tourster from the front view (and, yes it is). However, as you turn the car around in your hand it slowly grows its own personality. By a simple slant of the windscreen the car transforms into a sassy looking roadster. Like the Tourster, it comes with top up or down. There are two vents on the hood instead of one. The spokes seem to be slightly crisper and the dash is different along with added inside door handles and window cranks. The side mount wheels feature a rim of chrome instead of a solid chrome wheel mounting. They also added side mirrors on the side wheels. There is simulated wood trim on the door tops of the interior not found on the Tourster. The biggest difference of course is the swooping rear end (and this puppy is long). The rear sports a working rumble seat and an extra tail light and attached steamer type trunk. The color is a maroonish brown with white interior (very attractive). The motor is the same as the 1930 version except the J Convertible has a black manifold and the Tourster has Chrome. You would think there would have been more changes from 1930 to 1935. However, the slanting windscreen did change the whole look of this car. Makes a great addition to your Duesenberg collection. The issue price is $135. (06/13/2000) (06/13/2000) |
