Here's a sleeper from our friends at FM-the cute-as-a-button 1910 Cadillac Model 30 touring car. Reminiscent of the horse-drawn buggies it shared the road with, this charmer is a pleasure to look at. The detailing is of a high quality, which is especially necessary on models of early antiques. There's a meticulously fitted real cloth top. The brightwork, done in gold tone to simulate the brass of the actual car, is abundant and full of fine details. The detailing on the engine is also precise, emphasizing its odd design. The seats, although they could have been rendered in leather, are nicely molded and have a good "feel" to them. A really nifty feature is the tiny, foldout "mother-in-law" seat, a predecessor to the rumble seat of later years. Operating it, and seeing it unfold, brought a smile to my face. Each delicately rendered feature serves to show just what newfangled things automobiles were near the turn of the century. Unless you're locked into a certain decade of automobilia, this winsome little scale model is a good representative for the early end of your collection. Then, every time you look at it, you can appreciate such modern inventions as roll-up windows and air conditioning. The issue price was $120. (08/10/1998) (12/30/1998) |
