The Porsche Type 901 was first unveiled in 1963 at the International Automobile salon in Frankfurt, Germany. The design was to become known as the 911. Ferdinand Porsche, Jr. projected the life-long dream of Ferdinand Porsche, Sr., gone by 1951, into building a long lasting legacy of art, function, speed and overall automotive excellence. The basic design has endured to this day and still turns heads and sets the heart to pounding. In 1907 Ferdinand Porsche was a genius in the field of aviation engine design. At Austro-Daimler, he designed powerful engines for "aeroplanes". Who today would deny, his cars can fly!

FM issued the most popular Porsche model ever, the 911, in March of 1992. This captivating beauty is currently out of production. Everywhere you look on this replica is black in all of its flavors. The striking paint is metallic black, smooth, thick, almost liquid in appearance. The whaletail is accented in flat black, while the seats, floor, tires and wheels display their own form of the same color. The removable metal roof panel is flat black as well. The wheel rims, front hood insignia and the words Carrera on the engine cover and roof pillars, are in accentuating gold. This is a heavy, well made model, with everything fitting precisely. Detail is very good but not quite as effective as the current day issues. For the lover of the Porsche automobile, the 911 is an absolute MUST collector.

The issue price was $105. (10/17/1998)
