In a word, it's outrageous. It was fast, loud, sexy, low and did I say fast? A wolf in street clothing, this Italian long-legged mistress produced 478 hp @ 7000 rpm through twin-turbos. The aluminum V8 drove the slightly more than 3000 pound guided muscle car to 60 in 4.2 seconds, swallowing up the quarter mile in 11.6 in its 1989 form. The metal and carbon-fibre marvel could cement the power to the pavement and howl like the proverbial banshee. It touched the 200-mph mark in roughly 30 seconds. It pulled 1.01g on the skidpad. As a street legal machine, I would say that's outrageous. Cost was officially $399,150. But IF found could run nearly $700,000. Enzo Ferrari unveiled the car personally on March the 12th 1987. Final production ceased in 1992, with 1311 F40's being made. Now out of production, FM officially issued this model in January of '92, although the bottom of my replica shows a 1991 date. The engine bay is faithfully represented, boasting metal coil springs, twin turbos and highlighting the wonderful tread design on the massive rear Pirelli 335/35ZR-17 tires, and yes it IS stamped perfectly on the sidewall. The paint on my example is lustrously thick and smooth and the replica sits low and mean. The interior, stark in real life, is accurate even if the gauges are decals. This was Enzo Ferrari's crowning achievement before his death and a good addition to the Ferrari collection. Can you handle its power? The issue price was $105. DISCONTINUED 1997.
