In response to the 1957 Chrysler "Forward Look", GM initiated a crash program to redesign all of it's '59's which left the five divisions sharing the same basic body shells. Cadillac produced 1,320 Biarritz' for 1959, FM has chosen to replicate one of only 99 produced with optional bucket seats. The overall look of this model is right on. FM has captured the important low ride height. The exterior chrome trim are mostly separate pieces and fit very well. However "Eldorado", in block letters, is missing from the trunk lid trim. The chassis, wheels and tires are accurately done. The engine compartment is complete, down to the air compressor and cruise control unit, but lacks any wiring or plumbing. The interior is especially well done and features the above mentioned bucket seats. The white seats have a soft "leathery" feel and are nicely patterned including the "wrinkles". The door panels have plenty of extra detail, however the dashboard top (and possibly the steering wheel handgrips) should have been a coordinating blue in color. This model is an earlier FM effort and lacks some of the fit and detail that we're now used to. Enough has been said and written about the style of the '59 Cadillac, if your diecast collection leans in the direction of this type of car, you shouldn't be disappointed. The issue price is $120. DISCONTINUED 1998. (08/10/1998) |
