Here's another classic from Spark's 1/24 Le Mans collection - the iconic Porsche 917K driven by Richard Attwood and Hans Herrmann that won the 1970 event. This curbside resin model comes in a thick resin base and clear dust cover. It's posed with an open driver's door with a driver figure with a fully modeled cockpit. Like all the Spark models, the exterior is beautifully done. The paint and graphics are smooth and crisp and the overall quality is superior to the 1/18 AUTOart model. The glazing is scale thin with the vent windows just cracked open enough to add to the realistic look. The hardware parts are better scaled and more detailed than the larger Aa model too. The realistic five-spoked wheels are shod in Goodyear tires unlike the AUTOart which has Firestones. The original #23 that now resides in the Porsche Museum sits on Goodyears but that may not mean they were the race day choice at Le Mans in 1970. There is of course very slim pickings in 1/24 for this genre unless you are a modeler or can afford expensive hand builts. Spark has offered a high quality replica of arguably the greatest race car in history. (04/28/2009) |
