To commemorate Corvette's 25th year, 15,283 of the 46,776 coupes, built that year, were painted in Anniversary Silver. Fewer of them, 12,739 to be exact, were equipped with the L-82, 350ci, 220hp V8 engine. This is the car that Franklin Mint replicated here. Next to the Limited Edition Corvette Pace Car, of which 6,502 were manufactured, this was the most desirable Vette you could have owned in 1978. TFM's car, though made without the higher tech features of today's models, is nonetheless a must have for Corvette collectors. The paint is well applied. Anniversary Silver consists of a top half in bright Silver metallic and a lower half in Charcoal silver metallic. Dual Charcoal metallic pinstripes highlight the front and rear fender arches while Silver metallic accents frame the fender cut-out behind the front wheels. "L-82", in red and silver is proudly emblazoned on the hood doom and the tires are treated to wide white outline letters. The coupe bears the Official 25th Anniversary emblems front and rear. The engine, devoid of plug wires, is still well detailed and the interior and undercarriage is nicely built for the build period. For someone looking to complete the Corvette collection or one who enjoys this specific year Vette, the image in Anniversary Silver, is striking indeed. The headlight pods do not open and don't expect to be able to remove the T-Tops. The issue price is $90. (08/03/2001) |
