Long, lean, sleek and fast for their time, the Jaguar XKEs were the car to be seen in during the 60's. One should be a perfect companion piece for the other but there are differences. Issued 9/93, the green Roadster is a gorgeous sight. (The red Coupe is discussed below.) On both, the trunk, hood (bonnet) and doors fit flush and snug. The Roadster is produced to show the folding top and inside hardware, lying flat behind the driver. Both trunks are lined with the same velvety material as on the cabin floor. Wire wheels are accurate as is the rearview mirror rod in the Roadster. Engine compartments are complete down to the metal screen mesh in the grill, and the triple wipers are metal in each version. The red Coupe issued 6/96 however, shows slightly more attention to detail. The silver lining inside the light housing, the silver detail stripe on the hood from the headlight back to the body cowling, but gone is the chrome air cleaner the Roadster displays for its triple carburetors. It is replaced with silver paint. The Coupe also has a chrome windshield molding that continues into the door frame. Both are extremely well crafted and display beautifully either separately or together. The issue price is $90. (07/18/1998) |
