Franklin Mint 1:24 1957 Corvette Convertible - Whitewall Error Version

Franklin Mint 1:24 1957 Corvette Convertible - Whitewall Error Version diecast car

Nearing the end of its run and in anticipation of the release of the fiberglass model to replace it, FM issued their last small supply of diecast metal cars but inadvertently put whitewall tires on them. Since this is the only difference between models and it was meant to replicate the stripped-to-the-bone street runner in 1:1 fashion, we know this as an error.

It is easy to counterfeit this issue. The tires from 56, 58, 59 or even 60 FM Corvettes will fit. One possible way, however, to know if it is genuine, is to spin the front tires. They should turn freely. There are two brake air ducts underneath the car that will rub if the tires have been replaced revealing it as a fraud. If the tires touch, that's ok, but they should be able to turn relatively freely.

Issue price was $90.
