DISCONTINUED 1999. Shades of Barney Oldfield! Teddy Roosevelt would have said, "Bully!" to FM for reproducing a true "man's" sports car. No frills here-just a basic, brawny little roadster that would jar some teeth loose on the rutted roads of its day, but get you there in jaunty style. Done in bright, shiny yellow, with beautifully applied thin, black pin striping-this model is sure to please any aficionado of early American cars. All the nickel-plated parts gleam in chromed plastic. The dash, floor and running boards are accented in real wood veneer. The seats, though molded in soft plastic, look and feel like leather. Lots of fine details abound, with levers, buttons and gadgets in evidence everywhere. The engine, without wiring, is nonetheless nicely detailed, illustrating just how different they were in '15. The undercarriage is also nicely done, with plenty of detail. I especially like the authentic finish on the exhaust system. Just holding this little beauty in your hands makes you want to find a real Stutz, don a duster, hat and goggles, squint through the tiny monocle windshield, and roar off down a dusty country lane in pursuit of adventure. In my book, that's a darned good reason to collect models in the first place. The issue price was $120. (08/10/1998) (12/30/1998) |
