"Woodies" were nearing the end of their long run by 1949. Ford's model 79 wasn't a true "woody" with solid wood coachwork but a steel-based station wagon with wood overlays. Nevertheless, it was a good meld of Ford's new post-war lines and the classic tradition of the wood-bodied station wagons Ford built in its own shop on-premises. Even though Ford broke new ground with the '49 body style, it didn't pass up the opportunity to hold onto the traditions of the past with the "woody" wagon. And don't you pass up on this fine image just because it doesn't have a surfboard sticking out the back. The issue price is $135. (11/15/2000) (11/15/2000) |
